What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectables used to fill facial creases, minimize wrinkles, and improve the appearance of deeply scarred areas. Also known as “soft tissue fillers,” they’re FDA-approved and minimally invasive, meaning they require minimal downtime. They can enhance skin by plumping, smoothing wrinkles, and filling deep lines, often restoring a youthful glow.

Types of Dermal Fillers

The main types are Natural Fillers (often hyaluronic acid-based, such as Juvederm and Restylane) and Synthetic Fillers (such as Sculptra or Radiesse). These fillers are safe, effective, and provide lasting results, typically ranging from six months to two years.

    Why Consider Dermal Fillers?

With age, collagen – a natural skin support structure – starts to diminish, resulting in sagging, wrinkles, and loss of elasticity. Collagen loss can be accelerated by factors such as:

  • Excessive sun exposure
  • Smoking
  • Pollution
  • Poor diet
  • Stress
  • Lack of Vitamin C
  • Aging

Dermal fillers act as a collagen substitute, helping to restore volume and lift to the skin. The procedure usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes, and mild side effects like bruising or swelling subside within 48 hours.

Is it Safe?

Yes, chemical peels are safe when conducted under the supervision of a qualified dermatologist.

What Are the Post-Procedure Precautions?

After a chemical peel, it’s important to follow these precautions:

  1. You may experience mild itching or redness in the treated area for 24-48 hours.
  2. For the first 3 days post-procedure, use only a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen on the treated area.
  3. Avoid using scrubs, loofahs, facial steamers, anti-acne creams, serums, anti-aging creams, or any other ointments prescribed to you, other than moisturizer and sunscreen, for 3 days after the procedure.
  4. Do not tweeze, rub, pick, bleach, wax, or exfoliate the treated area for 1 week following the procedure.
  5. Refrain from any other treatments such as laser therapy, additional peeling, or medi-facials for 1 week after the procedure.
  6. Use moisturizer and sunscreen every 4-5 hours, and avoid activities that involve prolonged direct sun exposure, such as swimming or hiking, for 3 days post-procedure.

By adhering to these guidelines, you can ensure the best results from your chemical peel and maintain your skin’s health.
